Class Photos-Terry Fox, Reading Buddies and Stations

Here are some photos from our our Reading Buddies that we do every Monday with Ms.Reavie's Gr.5 class, the Terry Fox Walk from today, along with our Friday stations and also, some of our beautiful works of art. Grade Ones worked on using warm colours, blending Primary colours (yellow and red) to create a secondary colour, orange. Using both vertical and horizontal lines and Primary colours, the Grade Twos created Piet Mondrian-style works of art.

Terry Fox Walk Volunteers

Terry Fox Walk Volunteers

Dear Parents,

Thank you for volunteering for our Terry Fox walk (Friday, Sept. 27). We have two groups of students using a route for their age group, primary and junior. Try to arrive at the school by 8:45. Please meet at the front office to sign in as a parent volunteer, then go to the back courtyard for departure. Should the walk be postponed due to rain, the walk will take place at the same time on Monday, September 30th.

Grades 1-6 Start - Time 9:00 a.m. Students will meet in the back courtyard prior to beginning their walk.

Grades 1 - 3 contact: Mrs.  McNamara-Uguccioni or Mr. McSheffrey
Grades 4 - 6 contact: Mr. MacAdam or Mme Sequin

How you can help:

  • Walk with your child’s class. Encourage students to stay together and away from traffic.
  • Help supervise children as they cross at intersections. (We will have teachers/volunteers at each intersection.)

  • If your child’s class has enough helpers, volunteers to walk with another class.
  • Enjoy getting to know some of the great kids we have here at St. Rita!

We thank you for your continued support,

The staff and students of St. Rita School

Photos and a Couple Reminders

Hi Parents,
I sent this message out on Messenger, but still not sure if messages are getting to everyone, so figured I would post it here as well.

a few notes about this week. As will be the case from now until March, homework went home yesterday (Mondays is when H.W. will always go out unless it's a long weekend) and is due back on Friday (again, unless a long weekend). If your child forgets to hand it in, they can always hand it in the following Friday and I will look at both weeks together. Like I tell the students though, the most important homework is that they are practicing their reading each night. If time is a concern, reading is the preferred choice.

Terry Fox Walk is next Friday September 27th, with a rain date for Monday the 30th. The route is 3km long, so comfy shoes and dressing for the weather is important.

For those parents that downloaded the app and got my message on Sunday, we unfortunately did not get our first Library day yesterday due to the Terry Fox assembly, so next week will be our first week at the Library.

2 great Math websites for student practice in case you're looking:  ixlmath , iknowit.com . Both sites allow 10 mins free per day, per device.

Lastly, I have attached some photos of the students doing some partnered Math, creating their profiles for Program Night (as well as an after shot of what the class looked like with their faces all posted) as well as a photo of the instructions on how to download the SchoolMessenger app that went home in student agendas last week.

 Have a good evening,
     Robin

Tuesday 10 September 2019

Hi Parents,
Sorry tried to send out a message using the OCSB messenger system but the service is down from 5-9pm tonight.

Just wanted to give a reminder that  TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) IS OUR PROGRAM NIGHT FROM 6-7:30pm for those parents/family members that can make it. Come in, take a look and get a tour from your son or daughter while they get their 'passport' stamped travelling around the school...and bringing you along for the ride:)  First week was a bit of a blur as we started new routines, but week 2 has started very well and the students are settling in real well.

Thank you to those that filled out and sent in the stack of forms that went out the first day of school. If you haven't had a chance to fill them out yet, they are due Sept.20th and if you need a new copy, I'll be happy to provide one, just write me a note in your child's agenda indicating that you need a new copy. Speaking of agendas, this year it's a bit different and the school is only accepting online payments (via cashonline) of $10 for agendas.

Have a good evening and hopefully will get to meet a number of you tomorrow,
     Robin

Wednesday 4 September 2019

Hi Parents,
Well, we now have 2 days under our belts and I think (hopefully) all the 1st day jitters are gone. Like I said in the letter that was sent home yesterday, the missing agendas should be in by the end of the week and will be sent home as soon as they arrive (cost is $10 and can be paid for via cashonline on the St.Rita website).

There were many forms that went home on Day 1 that need to be returned to school, so, to avoid adding more forms and having some lost in the mix, I am waiting until Friday to hand out 2 more forms: The first will be our monthly September newsletter and the second will explain the messaging system I will be using this year.

The Board has asked that we no longer use the 'Remind' text messaging system to communicate with parents this year  (which is the one I have used in the past as my primary means of communication with parents). The OCSB has created their own messaging system that I will be using. I am not familiar with it, but it should be easy to use and messages should be delivered directly to the parents whose info we have on file. This makes it very important that the information contained on the verification forms that went home, are correct. Please check those and send back to school as soon as possible, please and thanks. If you've already sent it in, thanks very much. Looking forward to a great year working together!

Here are a few photos from the class before the students arrived:
